On behalf of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and China Agricultural University (CAU), we would like to extend our warmest welcome to all attendees of the 2017 International Conference on Animal Biotechnology (Beijing, Nov 9-11, 2017).

Appreciating the growing importance of pigs in biomedical researches, the Chinese government has officially approved building a National Swine Phenotyping Facility with a budget of 760 million RMB at China Agricultural University (CAU).

In addition, we are proposing a very ambitious project the pig model project (PMP), which includes producing knockout pigs for 25,000 genes, phenotyping of all lines, and translational researches. Nobel laureate Mario Capecchi from University of Utah has agreed to chair the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Pig Model Project.

We are honored to have invited 22 outstanding scientists in the field of animal biotechnology to be our plenary speakers, who will surely provide extra dimensions for the Conference. The conference will bring together world-class scientists conducting state-of-the-art research in animal biotechnology. We are excited to hear them talking about new scientific advances, such as organ regeneration by pig-human interspecific chimera method, 3D pig genomic/epigenomic annotation by CHIA-PET, generation and phenotyping of demanded pig models of human diseases, including cystic fibrosis, congenital heart disease and cancer, and so on.

Most importantly, the conference serves as an important opportunity to exchange ideas about how to move forward with the pig model project. We wish the conference a great success, and wish you all enjoy your stay in Beijing. You could get the details on the website www.pigmodel.org
