Nerve Injury and Repair Mechanisms
Nerve regeneration is much more efficient in the peripheral nervous system than in the central nervous system. Understanding the differences in PNS and CNS regeneration can help us develop strategies for improving outcomes following nerve injury. We are interested in studying the intrinsic axonal regeneration factors and identifying the role of Schwann cells during nerve injury and regeneration. Biochemical, molecular biological, histochemical, genetical and behavioral approaches are used to study key events in injured nerves and to determine the overall impact and therapeutic potential of these events.
